From the Nuweiba-St. Katherine road a short walk takes you past the Rock of Inscriptions, bearing inscriptions in a number of languages (Nabatean, Greek, Roman, Byzantine) including inscriptions by crusaders.

Colored Canyon Colored Canyon has become a popular safari trek and lies between St. Catherine's Monastery and the town of Nuweiba.  The strange rock formations, colored canyon walls and the utter silence all combine to create a magical sense of drama and other-worldliness.

Santa Katharina In 325 Helena, mother of Justinius I, built a chapel over the site of the burning bush. It was this chapel that a century later formed the cornerstone of the monastery. The monks considered this bush, Rubus Sanctus Holy Raspberry) to be the most important place in the entire region. You can tour the monastery, visit the skull chamber and view the amazing collection of icons from the Byzantine-Renaissance periods.
